Mexican National and Husband, Father of Three granted Cancellation of Removal and to Receive Green Card
- Posted on: Nov 21 2018
Roberto, a native of Mexico who entered the U.S. in 2000 was detained while riding as a passenger in a vehicle coming home to his family in Queens after completing seasonal agricultural work in Washington State in the fall of 2012. He was detained by Immigration Customs Enforcement and placed in removal proceedings. Roberto hired Cohen Forman Barone, LLP to represent him throughout his removal proceedings and after he was released on bond and transferred to New York City Immigration Court, he applied for Cancellation of Removal and Adjustment of Status. Roberto’s attorney helped guide him through the process of acquiring and generating all of the vast amount of evidence needed to win this unusual form of relief including locating an expert on child autism in Mexico which became a key aspect of the case. Cohen Forman Barone also helped Roberto acquire and maintain lawful employment authorization throughout his case. After waiting years for his final hearing, Roberto and his counsel were able to ultimately convince the Immigration Judge that he was a worthy candidate for this very difficult form of relief for undocumented persons to obtain. Roberto is now happily awaiting the arrival of his green card and moving forward with his life on the path to U.S. citizenship.
